VE DAY 1945

Britain entered the Second World War on 3 September 1939. Just over 5 1/2 years (2,074 days) later, on 8 May 1945, Britain observed Victory in Europe Day to celebrate the end of fighting in Europe. In towns cities, towns and villages across Britain people decided to throw VE Day parties as they looked forward to seeing soldiers return from the fighting, the end of rationing, air raid warnings and other wartime hardships. On 15 August 1945, VJ Day was observed to celebrate the end of the fighting against Japan, and the end of then Second World War.
